About Ph.D Programmes and Research Publications

The University has implemented the rules and regulations as prescribed by the UGC guidelines dated 2009, since 2010. Earlier the University had not predetermined the manageable number of available doctoral students depending on the number of available eligible faculty supervisors. This had resulted into large number of applications from students as well from the research guides.

It was essential for the University to critically review the present Ph.D programme to maintain high quality of research. As per the directives of the Hon'ble Vice-chancellor on the recommendations of the Academic Council the University has followed the criteria for the selection as mentioned below:

The numbers of new enrolments were limited to the vacancy in the respective faculty.
Preference will be given to Full-time Ph.D. students and faculty members, as a part of Faculty Development Programme and Career Advancement.
Preference has been given to Symbiosis Faculty and Ph.D. guides.
If the application for becoming recognized Ph.D.guide is from outside Pune, then approval from the respective institute is mandatory and also the respective institute should become a recognize research centre of the University. The University has developed necessary formats and processes for this purpose.
The eligibility criteria for a recognized research guide is 5 years teaching experience with minimum two research publications in the peer reviewed journals. The Ph.D guide registering will be updated accordingly.
The University has developed to encourage industries/institute with good track record of research to seek recognized as "Recognized Research Centre "of the University.
To enhance the research activities of the University, the present seven faculties are under three research clusters as under:
  1. Technology and Design (Engineering, Design and IT)
  2. Social Sciences (Law, Management , Media, Communication & Humanities)
  3. Biomedical Sciences (Health Sciences)
To build the research culture, knowledge generation, wealth creation and social mobilization and also interdisciplinary approach, the University has made provisions of awarding fellowships/research assistance ship.
The University is in the process to establish Innovation Cell, Information Centre and IPR Policy.
By having relevance and innovation culture, integrate teaching, research and applications, built on existing strength and inter and intra institutional collaborations will lead to high impact on publications and patterns.
